Gold Medal Gyms: Preparing For A Gymnastics Meet
Whether it is your first or 100th gymnastics meet, it is important to adequately prepare. From practice to nutrition, it is important to make a plan that will help you be as successful as you can be. This Gold Medal Gyms blog will help guide you through the preparation process so that you feel confident as you walk into the competition!
Pack Your Things Carefully
There are a multitude of things you’ll want to have with you at the meet. You’ll need to make sure you pack all of the necessary clothing and hair products for the meet. Your hair must be secured and out of your face so bring hairspray and hair ties. You’ll also want to make sure to pack things like your grips and wrist guards, a water bottle (hydration is very important), a healthy snack, and a copy of the music for your routine. It is wise to take time and pack your bag the night before the big meet. That gives you the chance to pack without any stress or hurry. Make sure to double check everything in the morning before you head to the gym.
Make Sure To Fuel Correctly
Taking the time to eat properly leading up to and the day of the meet will help you be more successful. You need to make sure you’ve given your body what it needs in order to be energized and prepared for strenuous physical activity. Talk to your coaches and a dietician to learn what foods are best to help your body be at peak physical performance.
Develop A Helpful Meet Routine
Routines are a great tool. This routine should include methods for both mental and physical preparation as both are huge factors in success at a gymnastics meet. Come up with rituals that will help you get in the right headspace to perform at your highest level. Take time to stretch and think about your routine. Focus on breathing and being calm before you begin the competition.
Arrive Early To Prepare
Arriving early is always a good idea. It will give you time to prepare both physically and mentally for the meet. The last thing you want is to be rushed. Take this time to practice the routine you’ve developed. Breathe deeply, drink water, visualize your routine, and make sure you have everything you need to succeed. You’ll be glad you gave yourself this time before things take off!
